ABOUT OVER MY HEAD
We’re In This Together
At Over My Head Boutique, cancer is part of each of our personal stories. While our experiences in and around, or with and through cancer are as different as we are, cancer is something we share. It’s our common connection, our collective nemesis, and the thing that fuels our passion and compassion to help others.
The Beginning
In 1998, Over My Head launched as a small retailer specializing in hats and scarves for cancer patients. Originally located in Upper Arlington, Ohio, the store was designed to be a beautiful space for women who wanted to look and feel as normal as possible while undergoing treatment for breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and other cancers.
Bonnie & Bethany
Finding simple yet powerful ways to support people going through cancer didn’t happen by accident. At The Ohio State University, while earning her BS in Textiles and Clothing, Bethany began designing fashionable and functional dresses, lingerie, and swimwear for mastectomy patients. That’s because Bethany’s 39-year-old mother, Bonnie, was diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a bilateral mastectomy. Though her mom handled life and cancer with dignity and grace, the experience opened Bethany’s eyes to the need for much improved cancer aesthetics. And so, on New Year’s Day 2007, Bethany bought Over My Head.
In 2012, the boutique found a new, larger home in the Ohio Health Bing Cancer Center, and added mastectomy prostheses fitting services. The newest location opened in the Dublin Cancer Center in 2021.
Our Mission
With compassion, dedication, and hard work, Bethany and her team have created a truly unique boutique that features practical services and supportive products provided by compassionate professionals.
Our mission is to simplify the hard work of finding things to bring comfort and care into the lives of anyone going through cancer treatment, recovery, and beyond.
